Where is Shiraz?
Shiraz is a beautiful historic and even legendary city in Iran and one of the most famous areas of the country that has long been the capital of Persian culture.
The ancient City
According to legend, Shiraz was founded by the son of Tahmores, the kings of the Pishdadian dynasty in Shiraz and named it after him. On the other hand, based on historical literature, this city was founded in the 6th century AH.
This city has not always been the center of Fars province throughout its history. “There is an Elamite inscription in Persepolis that contains the name of a castle called Tirazis or Shirazis,” said John Limbert, a former Iranologist and former lecturer at Shiraz University. According to his findings, as well as references to Islamic sources and other archaeological evidence and evidence from late Sasanian and early Islamic seals, the name Shiraz has been found on these tablets.
Post-Islamic history books indicate that this city was an irregular circle in ancient times, around which there were various fences and towers and its interior was divided into four sections.
During the Mongol invasion of Iran, it was spared destruction and massacre because local rulers were satisfied with paying taxes to the Mongols. In the 6th century, it became famous for its prosperity in science, culture and art.
