Where is Babak Castle?
Babak Castle is located one and a half hours from Ahar and three hours from Tabriz. But the closest city to it is Kleybar. It is about three kilometers from Kleibar Road to Babak Castle. Kleiber is a lush city, on the slopes of a mountain and next to a forest. When you go from Kleiber, you will reach a road known as Babak Castle Road. Babak Khorramuddin Fortress is a castle on a mountain peak about 2300 to 2700 meters above sea level. The three-kilometer route from Kleybar to the castle is a dangerous route despite the dangerous passes and passages. Of course, part of the route is paved and you can drive part of it by car. But whether you like it or not, you have to walk a part of the way. It is better to have mountaineering equipment with you.
Why see this area?
This castle was built during the Sassanid period and is still standing, and we can see it. We both see nature and walk, and we see the historical monuments of this region. In this area, pottery belonging to the 7th century AH has been found. They have also found a copper coin here. Babak Castle is on the list of national monuments. If you start your trip from Tabriz or Ahar, you can also see the sights of Tabriz and tour the old bazaar of Ahar. This is where the Arasbaran forest begins. Eat food in Kleybar when you are hungry. You can also spend the night in Kleybar or the houses of this small town and head to the castle early in the morning. From Kleybar to the castle, the Shahsavan nomads and their tents are also on your way.
Architecture of the castle
There is not much left of Babak Castle and the most attractive thing is the grandeur of the castle and the way to reach it. Part of it has been rebuilt and part remains intact. On both sides of the gate, two towers were built, which were once the strongholds of Dejban. On all four sides of the castle there were four watchtowers, in the shape of half-cylindrical. Babak Fortress has only one entrance, which of course is natural for a fort with these features, which should have limited access. To cross the gate, you have to cross a narrow corridor with a valley on one side. In the eastern part, in addition to the rooms, there are water reservoirs. Babak castle has been renovated many times over the years, but its complete reconstruction is not easy due to its geographical location and conditions.
The best time to visit Babak Castle
To see the best scenery, it is recommended to choose the spring season for your trip so that you can enjoy the stunning scenery while climbing the mountain and visiting Babak Castle. Once you’ve reached your destination by local car, you’ll have to walk down a mountain that is a little bit of time but worth it. Along the way you will see beautiful plains and enjoy the green and forested mountains around the castle. After reaching the beginning of the castle, you have to go up the winding path to reach the main rooms, and then you can go to the highest point of the castle and see everything under your feet.
