Shush city has an area of about five square kilometers and located 115 km northwest of Ahvaz. Also, the city of Shush is about 78 meters above sea level. Besides, the distance from Shush to the Tigris River is also about 150 kilometers.

The city of Shush has mentioned in historical sources in different names. Also, Shush Sosa, Susiana and Shushen the letters mentioned for Shush. Besides, according to Hamza Isfahani in his book, Shush meant a beautiful and safa city.

In addition, Shush was the center of Elam’s rule since 2700 BC. Also, the period of Elamian rule in Shush is about 2,000 years old. Besides, many inscriptions and bricks have obtained from the city. Furthermore, it’s proving that the city is abad and civilized.

Due to its special geographical location between the two civilizations of Elam and Mianrodan in the north of the Persian Gulf, Shush achieved a considerable position in the Achaemenid period. So, it considered as a crossroads west and east. Also, Shush had a special strategic position. Besdes, its position on the way to the Shah during the Dariush era tripled Shush’s position and reputation.

Actually, although the history of Shush city reaches 4000 BC, excavations in this area show that Susa in 9000 BC was also home to farmers. Also, the remains of castles found in Shush that show that about 5,000 years ago there was life in this area. Besides, the history of Shush urbanity reaches the Elam period. In addition, Sassanid also maintained some importance, but it was not as prosperous as the Achaemenid era.

Besides, the initial building of the museum constructed at the same time as the start of Susa excavations. Furthermore, using bricks obtained from Susa and Choghaznbil excavations and parts have added to it.

Furthermore, Shush Museum opened in 1975. Also, the museum’s works belong to the period from Elam to the Islamic period. Besides, Shush Museum has six large halls and all the works exhibited in it are the result of excavations in Shush and Choghaznbil area.

Apadana Palace

The Apadana Palace in Susa was dariush’s winter palace. Also, it used by other Achaemenid kings. Besides, the walls of the palace are made of clay and pillars of stone. Moreover, the palace has a hall, a harem, a gate and a reception palace. Furthermore, the interior walls of the palace have paintings with the theme of Shirbaldar, Niloofar and the Immortal Corps.

Ardeshir Palace

Ardeshir Palace is on the western part of the Shavur River. Also, the palace has a hall of six by five meters and has 64 columns. Besides, the palace is 350 meters away from Apadana and built by Ardeshir II of Achaemenid.

Ivan Karkheh

Ivan Karkheh is a city from the Sassanid era and related to Shapur II. Also, the city is 20 kilometers from Shush. Besides, the huge baroe encloses the palace grounds .Furthermore, it located on each side of the gates. This is the largest buried city in Sassanid.

Haft Tappeh

Haft Tappeh is an ancient site 15 kilometers away from Shush. Also, it composed of different hills. Besides, excavations on this hill and the existence of many skeletons have shown that there was a great tomb in this hill.
